Clay Stamps

1. Which stamp do you think will work the best and why?
I think my cube will work the best because it has deep indentations of my random object.

2. Which stamp do you think will have difficulties and why?
I think the spheres will have difficulties because there still are pieces of clay stuck in the markings.

3. Which style was the most difficult to make and why?
The style I had most difficulties with was the the one with the handle because I couldn't really make the base into a nearly perfect circle and it was sort of challenging to attach the handle to the base.

4. Which style was easiest to make and why?
The sphere was easiest to make because all you have to do is roll it in a ball.

1.) The process: take a ball of clay and roll it out on the slab roller. Measure out how tall your piece is and how wide it is but multiply that width by 3. Cut out the rectangle. Then, smooth it out. I did a sort of plastic texture mold for my texture, so I did that on the whole thing when it was flat. Then I made it into a cylinder and did a triangle for the bottom with my hands to shape it into the feet. Close the triangle all the way and put a ball of clay over to cover the middle. Then I made the handle out of a coil of clay and shaped it into the kind of handle I wanted and then scored and slipped to attach the handle. I added scratches that were supposed to look like fire and it was time for it to fire. Once it was fired, I added two layers of purple and orange glaze and then it was fired again. 1. What did you find worked well and what stamp did not? Why do you think that is? The little rubik's cube stamp did really well as it is clearly indented upon the surface of the clay. Surprisingly enough, the sphere stamp did not do well. I think the markings were not carved in deep enough. 2. Do you think that the practice will influence what you make for your own stamps? Yes. I will make sure to carve deep enough and to follow what whoever created the rubik's cube stamp did.
